Later this month, BBC1 will air a new drama focusing on the pleasures and problems of raising a child with autism.
[The A Word] is the story of the Hughes family, who work and love and fight like every other family. Then their youngest son is diagnosed with autism and they don’t feel like every other family anymore. They realise that if their son is ever going to communicate, they are going to have to learn how to communicate themselves. It’s a funny and thought-provoking series about parenthood and childhood.
We’re really looking forward to watching this series as we hope it will portray the challenges parents face in raising a child with autism in an understanding light. This series is a remake of the hit Israeli drama, Yellow Peppers, which was written and created by Keren Margalit, who will be an executive producer on the UK series.
