At Sparkle Sheffield we are working together with a number of schools in and around the city which we visit once a month during the scheduled school Parent Group drop-in sessions. We offer support and workshops on various topic areas for parents and carers of children on the Autism Spectrum, whilst listening to concerns and issues many families have.

ADVICE SESSIONS

Parenting a child with autism can be very challenging! At times, you may need specific advice, guidance for dealing with your child’s behaviour, or some moral support.

The Sparkle Team is powered by parents who understand these challenges. We offer outreach to parents affected by autism in the form of 1-to-1 advice sessions and telephone support.

We can help with:

  • Advice on parenting strategies
  • Tips for dealing with meltdowns
  • Signposting to other services
  • Details of autism-friendly activities
  • And more!

Feel free to get in touch by telephone or email to discuss your concerns.

EDUCATION ADVICE

Many children with autism need support with their education. Sparkle Sheffield may be able to offer some advice regarding:

  • Reasonable adjustments in school
  • Developing good relationships with your child’s school
  • Applying for an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Finding a supportive school for your child
  • Currently this service is provided on an informal basis, though in the near future we hope to establish an appointment service with independent supporters.

Please get in touch if you need any advice regarding your child’s education and we will do our best to help.

For Families

STAY & PLAY SESSIONS

Each half-term, Sparkle organises inclusive soft-play sessions for children with autism and their families. These sessions are designed with autism in mind, so the lighting is softer and the music less intrusive. Families may bring their own refreshments if needed, as we understand that our children can be rigid with their food choices!

INCLUSIVE BOWLING SESSIONS

Each half-term, Sparkle organises an inclusive bowling session for families with children on the autism spectrum. These sessions are arranged with autism in mind: lighting is dimmed, and the aisles reserved are away from the main hustle and bustle of the venue. Sparkle arranged exclusive discount rates for families attending these sessions to ensure everyone is able to attend.

For Professionals

SCHOOLS OUTREACH

Please contact us if you would like us to deliver a coffee Morning, or train your staff on autism Awareness or if you would like Sparkle to visit your school.

We now deliver Autism Awareness courses to professionals. E.g. Teachers, Retailers, Businesses etc. If you would like us to deliver our course in your workplace. Please contact us for more information.

EDUCATION ADVICE

If you are a professional working with a family who have an autistic child and believe they may benefit from Sparkle’s support and advice, you can introduce them to us using the form linked below. Of course, this is not a formal inter-organisational referral but it will allow us to contact them as part of our voluntary parent-to-parent outreach support.
